We gain a few feet in middle school, puberty leads us into high school. The last thought in anyone\u2019s mind would be about the juniors and lower classmen. While the seniors get ready for life after high school, they get ready to move up the food chain in high school. But what if they\u2019ve already contracted senioritis? Now it seems skipping has become the new trend.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3581 alignright\" title=\"2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01\" src=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01-350x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01-100x66.jpg 100w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-01.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a>Gabby Padilla, a sophomore at Heritage, started skipping when she was in the 7th grade at Frontier Middle School and still continues now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to skip,\u201d she says. \u201cAll I need is a person with a car and I can leave\u2014it\u2019s simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Keller, the Anatomy and Environmental Science teacher here at Heritage spoke to Heritage\u2019s past chemistry teacher, Gwendolyn Thompson, who moved to Union last year. \u201cEveryone goes to school at Union, so the teachers have more to grade\u201d Thompson commented.<a href=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3584 alignleft\" title=\"2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04\" src=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04-350x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04-100x66.jpg 100w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-04.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Heritage has one of the lowest attendance rates in the Evergreen Public School District, and it looks like things aren\u2019t going to get any better. Those who still have years to stay in high school already dread it. Not only is the districts reputation in trouble but also Washington State. Washington\u2019s high school graduation rates have decreases to 76 percent which is below average, counting all the freshmen who graduated four years after entering high school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3583\" title=\"2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03\" src=\"http:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03-233x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03-233x350.jpg 233w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03-500x750.jpg 500w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03-66x100.jpg 66w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03-400x599.jpg 400w, https:\/\/howlheritage.com\/media\/2013\/04\/2013-04-16-calhoon-senioritis-03.jpg 534w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/a>The general concern is what\u2019s going to become of those that succumb to Senioritis so early in their high school career. Too many kids every single year are denied the chance to walk across the stage the June of their graduating year with their peers. They\u2019re denied their diploma\u2014denied that chance to throw their caps in the air and celebrate their success.
